WHAT WE DO

Babelfish Recruitment recruit qualified efl teachers for schools in non-English speaking countries. Our goal is to match professional EFL teachers with reputable schools throughout the world. Most good schools don't want a backpacker in the classroom for a few weeks (although many do!) and no professional EFL teachers want to be treated as a backpacker by a school. Backpacking is great - but it is what you do after a contract.

We provide a range of services for EFL training centres, teachers and schools - from simple pre-screening or interviewing to a full recruitment service depending on the needs of the school. Teachers, or prospective teachers are welcome to approach us for advice and information on TEFL courses, vacancies or any general tefl related issues.

WHY BABELFISH?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Babel

For those who are a bit hazy on the bible and cult sci-fi, Babelfish recruitment are named after the babel fish, which derives it's name from the story of the tower of babel...

According to the bible (the one we picked up anyway), one worldwide language meant no misunderstanding and great cooperative projects were possible, including the world's first skyscraper.

"Come let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens". "The Lord, (in his infinite wisdom) said, 'if as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other'... that is why it was called Babel - because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world".

Good old God - there then followed a period of misunderstanding, confusion and war!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BABELFISH

The babel fish is a fictional creature which allows anyone inserting the small, yellow, leach-like fish into their ear to understand any other language in the galaxy - "The practical upshot of all this is that, if you stick a babelfish in your ear you can instantly understand anything said to you in any form of language".

Ironically, this new-found understanding results in a period of friction, disagreement and war (and provides proof of the non-existence of god).

BABELFISH AND TEFL

Until the Babelfish is discovered or created, the next best thing is... the TEFL teacher.

Obviously sparking intergalactic war should be avoided during any syllabus - and inserting yourself into a student's ear falls outside mainstream EFL methodology - but the TEFL teacher allows the people of the world to understand each other. Or at the very least ask for directions to the train station.
